STEAM²IE™ Workspace

Project Title: STEAM²IE™ Workspaces, West Philadelphia. STEAM²IE™ Workspaces is a place-based economic mobility catalyst. We are investing in the adaptive reuse of the 12,000 sq. ft. vacant warehouse to be converted into a 17,100 sq. ft state-of-the-art makerspace for workforce development and entrepreneurialism.

Problem We Solve: This solution is an age-friendly, AgingCommunity® solution. It is an initiative of Ujima Developers, LLC and Community Transformation Partners, Inc (a not-for-profit) STEAM²IE™ Workspace is an innovation of the Makerspace model that will change the narrative of income inequality in Philadelphia, the manufacturing skills gap in Pennsylvania, and the technology talent shortage experienced in the United States. STEAM²IE™ will provide community residents with access to introductory knowledge and skills leading to jobs for the future, opportunities for upskilling and co-working space for tech entrepreneurs. In addition, it will provide a public programming space. Access to opportunities to earn more than a living supports families' potential for homeownership and wealth creation.

East Parkside Age-Friendly Village

Project Title: East Parkside Age Friendly Village, West Philadelphia. New construction of 14 Duplexes featuring accessible and affordable senior condos and affordable market rate bi-level condos in a net zero designed smart home

 

Total Project Cost: $8.3 million

 

Project Timeline: Late 2020

 

Problem We Solve:  This is an AgingDesign® and AgingCommunities® solution for families with aging relatives and active seniors who want to age in place.  This multi-generational village style development will offer accessible garden style apartment condos and affordable market rate bi-level condos in a net zero duplex.  The Age Friendly Village will offer resident services that reduce the stress of caregivers and the promote the safety, health and wellbeing of seniors who want to stay in a neighborhood and maintain their independence.  This development implements components of AARP’s Livable Communities model.  This will be a place where residents of all ages have the opportunity to thrive. 

Aging in Place Row Houses

Project Title: Age-Friendly Chase St, Phase I, Baltimore, MD. Six (6) vacant row homes, as part of an assemblage of 17 vacant buildings and lots on the 2200 Block of Chase St. 

 

Total Project Costs: $1.2 million

 

Projected Timeline: Fall 2020 

 

Problem We Solve: This is a AgingDesign® Health and Housing solution that offers 3 bedroom/3 bath floor plans designed with ADA compliant features to minimize accident risks, promote health and reduce caregiver stress. The Middle East Neighborhood is in transition. This project provides affordable market rate housing for families in the community with aging relatives who want to remain in the neighborhood in a row house designed for all ages as an alternative to gentrification. 

Legacy Collaborative Senior Village

Project Title: The LCSV is co-located in the Overlook at Oxon Run, a high-rise community at 3700 9th Street, SE, Washington DC 20032. Traditionally, the village concept emphasizes creating connections and building community through “neighbors helping neighbors.” This village is unconventional and has a community-supportive service approach.

Problem We Solve: This is an AgingCommunitie® and AgingReady® solution that help individuals 50+ create personal autonomy and social inclusion and cohesion that enhance aging individuals' lives in Ward 8, build and sustain age-friendly communities, and increase the quality of life and ability to live independently.
