1st Caregiver Cooperative in the District of Columbia

 

The name of the organization is DC CareWorks Community Cooperative. It will be the first independent group of Caregivers united voluntarily to meet their everyday economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise, East of the River.

 

CareWorks is in the startup phase.

 

CareWorks will provide services to its membership, inclusive of caregivers and care recipients, that help solve individual and community caregiving needs.

 

Data:

  • Approximately 75,000 caregivers in Washington DC, primarily serving or residing in Wards 7 & 8.

  • Almost 60% of caregivers are low-income women of color, and more than 80% of caregivers lack training and support.

 

We have collaborated with the ICA Group, Cooperative Development Foundation, and DC Long Term Care Coalition to conduct Marketing Landscape and Feasibility Analyses.

A culturally appropriate web-based portal and mobile app that functions as a social, emotional, and educational tool for caregivers and providers in the District of Columbia that addresses race and advances health equity.

Through the Caregivers app you can receive the help you need in one place. Caregivers can receive resources, training, and education through Dynamic Solutions for aging in the community. By expanding what you know you can expand what you do and can five to your community.
